Strategies for getting the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Myrtle Beach trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Start by having your group commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Lovely 1st floor condo in Magnolia Place has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your group.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular Myrtle Beach beach you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
