Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Book your Myrtle Beach rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • First and foremost, have your family select vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. SANDY PEARL, NEW 2023 BUILD, in Ocean Lakes, 5 Bdr 4.5 Ba has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
