How to find the best Myrtle Beach rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Myrtle Beach. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and choosing yourvacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Resort living in this 2BD condo with pools, waterslides, and lazy river has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
