Booking the best vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Myrtle Beach. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your family commit to the best dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Stunning 2BR Condo at Waterway Village has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If not, email the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
