Tips to get the best rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Gorgeous Caravelle Resort Suite with direct ocean views! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your family.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
