Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 2BR\/2BA View of the Ocean from Every Room! New Kitchen & Baths! + Beach Locker! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
